I want to tell you what a nice young man the technician was that came to our house and replaced our springs. I think it was a quality job, however, after checking around I found I could have gotten the springs changed for less. Can you tell me why you were higher than some other companies I found on Craig's List.
Thank you for asking me this question. It is a good one. There are two kinds of springs available to garage service companies. One is cold rolled steel springs, that are contractor grade, and what most manufacturers supply with their new doors. Garage door manufacturers proudly manufacture their own quality panels, however they buy their hardware(springs, cables, rollers, etc.) from the cheapest vendor they can find to keep the cost of the doors down. These are usually cold rolled steel springs that do the job, but they don't have the same cycle life, and thus, don't last as long. A lot of service companies buy these springs. We beleive in only replacing parts with the best quality available so they will last longer for our customers. Therefore we use hot oil tempered springs which go through multiple "flash" dips to harden the steel, thus greatly extending service/cycle life. Hello, I was quoted a special $14.95 plus parts service call to come to my house for a garage door repair. The repair did not need any parts but we were charged an additonal labor fee of $45. I thought you only had a service charge plus parts cost. I did not know about the $45 an hour labor charge. I felt this misleading on your part.
Dear Mr. Spence, Thank you for reviewing our business. I am sorry for the confusion. We do have a special advertised service call to come to your house of $14.95. It is one of the lowest service call you will find for any service business in the county. It covers some of the cost of running a fleet of trucks in 3 counties, 24 hours, 7 days a week. It also covers the technician completing a 17 point safety check on all your doors moving parts and to diagnose what is the problem with your door. We normally do not charge for labor but only for "parts" installed. However, your door did not need any parts. The tech was able to spend some time fixing your existing parts with some adjustments. Since no parts were needed the technician did need to charge for the time he spent fixing your existing parts, which saved you the expense of replacing them. The $45 labor charge covered his time working on the repair. Many companies would have spent less time putting on brand new parts and charged you hundreds of dollars more. We apologize for the misunderstanding and want to keep you as our customer. We want to offer you a free service call in the future. Thank you for understanding. Although I was prepared to replace my garage door opener, Keith diagnosed the problem (the spring) and replaced it. This solved the problem and replacing the opener was not necessary. When eventually it is, I guarantee I'll have Precision do the job.
